yooooo. i remember one that effed us up pretty good a long time ago. i think it was like no outside anything and we couldnt use effects lol. i think breakmaster cylinder won that shit. that had to be one of the roughest weeks. also i think it was you that threw up that challenge where we used waveforms only to make all our sounds. that was a fun and rough one too. good times cuzzo.

haha, i'm not even gonna start trying to remember which week that was it's been over ten years non-stop.. is brain racking harmful ?.. it sounds that way ! :p

using nothing but your body to produce a beat by BMC was crazy too.. if you're interested search on: STBB 437 for all the entries
i think this was the winner.. stuck firmly in my memory. crazy good
good times indeed!

used parts of samples 1,3 and 4. no microsampling and turning stuff into synths all layered loops and one hits.

not samples i would normally reach for so great challenge this week

hmm, here's some friendly fire though ;) sorry ..no sample nr. 2 ? ..brief specified using something of all 4 samples..

i'm stubborn coz i know i should be tweaking this mix till the death.. but i'm just too excited about it..

used nothing but..and all samples.. extracted the vocals from track 4 only..

bass from a piano stroke from sample 2.. tape distortion, filtering etc.

kick: sample 1 ..snare: 4 .. cymbs: 2.. melody: 3 etc.

had mad fun with the vocals

dope week so far !

Maybe the opening battle posts needs a little table of what’s allowed - there’s so much that goes into some beats that it’s open to interpretation?

I use Serato Studio so stems are built into the DAW so not like I’m going out of my way to separate stuff, it’s a little toggle switch on the track.

Fwiw - I don’t see using stems any different to people using acapellas on tracks most weeks (essentially a vocal stem)

Something like:

| Stems | No
| Drums | Samples Only
| VST Instruments | Yes
| Live Instruments | No
| Acapellas | No
| Live Raps | Yes
| FX | Yes

Weekly Beat Battles at the STBB Forever Forum

DEFAULT RULES:

The winner of the previous week's battle is required set the rules.
if one can't do so: have a sample and rule set ready on forehand or don't enter.
Here are the default rules:

• Flip the chosen sample any way you want.
• Allowed: outside drums and bass, vocal shots, cuts/scratches, fx like crackle etc.
own recorded and/or played vocals, acapellas, instruments and synths
• ^^ Basically everything unless the winner/week starter states otherwise in the brief.
• One entry per person - when collabing that counts as their one entry for all who are in on that.
- extra entries are allowed but must be labelled "Non-entry" in the track title.
- entries posted after the deadline must be labelled as 'late entry' in the track title.

NOTES:

• Only beats that adhere to the rules and that are labelled correctly get reposted and added to the playlist.
• Please don't make significant rule/sample changes to be made after posting. Clarifying, yes.
• The winner has the final say on entries being legit or not based on the rules provided.
• Beats that are the same as another entry but with or without aca won't be reposted.

Just thought it'd be easier in the battle post - especially if they are a new member, theres no link to that post in the description.

If they were there at the top as a simple yes / no, theres no reason for any rule breaking?

yeah, good idea ..it needs to get maintained though.. but maybe that's a matter of pointing it out a couple of times..

there have been these little 'tables' of and on in the past.

we recently implemented the calendar and have thought of automating the weekly topic start with a default rule set to tweak.. once we get a new site / code.

i put the default Rules up to show we could add stem splitting as default: yes .. so it could also just be matter of.. saying: no, to a few things..

hmm, to a degree..it's just the one stem /layer.. and it can't be used as a basis etc.. also it has a whole 'nother feeling .. and purpose with conveying meaning with words..

ah, was typing my previous message..

yeah, till it's automated somebody has to be on top of making sure it gets added.. i'm always at work at exactly that time..

and one never knows what time the winner posts..( before the deadline of course ;) )

but we can definitely try

edit: oh, yeah, we could add a reminder with an example in or beneath the post announcing the winner..
