Re: STBB #909 🦜 👀 'ah well a everybody's heard..'

Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:51 am

Not sure if it counts. Used Ableton 909 drumkit. Found it too overwhelming with the amount of drum hits in the pack.
Used the bass sample for bass and synth (octaves up and down). No micro looping, its a full bass note which played nicely on my keyboard.
Bird sample chopped from two different places to form a sound in the background starting from 0:14 till the end.

Im gonna try to remake the drums with the ones provided in the pack

I had never used a 909 or a kit. It was a wonderful experiment for me. I looked up some classic 909 beats and was drawn to the old school house beats. So I attempted to make one for the first time. I tried to stay true to the available effects in the early 90's.

I have tried and failed to make something the last three attempts at this competition. It was really helpful to stay in a creative boundary. eg. limited samples, specific genre. Thanks for the dope samples and idea!

Hey All,
I ran across this quote from Orson Wells recently and I have been thinking about it.
"The enemy of art is the absence of limitations"
That's why I like the stricter rules some weeks. I also do the Disquiet Junto each week which also gives prompts and rules. The limitations are really a good starting point I find.
Here is my track for the week.

I also used the samples for this cover of the was not was track. Not to be included in the playlist but if anybody is curious check it.

Hope all are well. Peace, Hugh

Drums from stem material
Bass is a filtered one-hit from the bird sample
Record/tape noise made from filter/reverb/EQing etc a small loop from bird sample
Edit: Clap is from 909 samples
